IKANN WELLNESS

Why Family Therapy Matters

Mental health conditions don't exist in isolation. Depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use affect communication patterns, trust, roles, and emotional bonds within the family. Family therapy addresses these systemic impacts by:

  • Improving communication between family members
  • Educating families about mental health conditions and treatment
  • Rebuilding trust damaged by illness or substance use
  • Establishing healthy boundaries that support recovery
  • Processing shared trauma and grief
  • Reducing enabling behaviors and codependency patterns
  • Creating a home environment that supports long-term wellness

Our Family Therapy Approach

Our licensed family therapists use evidence-based approaches including:

Structural Family TherapyExamining and restructuring family roles, hierarchies, and boundaries
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)Strengthening emotional bonds and attachment security
Multisystemic TherapyAddressing the multiple systems (family, school, community) that influence behavior
PsychoeducationHelping families understand diagnoses, treatment, and what to expect during recovery
Communication Skills TrainingTeaching active listening, "I" statements, and conflict resolution
