Animal-Assisted Activities

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” – Golda Meir

How Equine Assisted Activities Work

Equine assisted activities are specifically designed to address the consequences of trauma in individuals and facilitate the healing process and instill trust in ones self.

  • Horses possess a unique ability to sense and respond to human emotions, creating a non-judgmental and supportive environment for healing.

  • The experiential nature of equine assisted activities enables individuals to build trust, enhance self-awareness, and improve communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Equine activities fosters personal growth, facilitates boundary-setting, empowers individuals, and promotes emotional well-being.

  • Equine assisted activities have been shown to reduce anxiety and depression through physiological changes. Studies indicate that animal-assisted activities lowers cortisol, the stress hormone, and decreases blood pressure.

Working to Build Trust

Jewish Recovery Center - outdoor therapy

When individuals approach horses with care and respect, demonstrating consistency and clear communication, the horses begin to trust and respond accordingly.

This process of building trust with the horses mirrors and translates into building trust in relationships with others.

Participants learn the significance of authenticity, setting boundaries, and fostering effective communication skills.
