What Makes Us Different

What Makes IKANN Wellness Different

Most treatment programs follow a formula. Group therapy in the morning, individual session in the afternoon, repeat. IKANN Wellness was built on the premise that formula-based treatment doesn't work for most women, especially women dealing with layered trauma, eating disorders, addiction, and the emotional weight of holding everything together for everyone else.

We designed our programs around what actually produces lasting change: a combination of clinical precision and whole-person care, delivered in a setting that is exclusively for women.

A Clinical Model Built for Complexity

The women who come to IKANN are not dealing with one issue. They're managing trauma histories that span years, anxiety that has become part of their identity, disordered eating that started as a coping mechanism, or substance use that began as the only way to get through the day. Treating one symptom while ignoring the rest doesn't produce results.

Our clinical team builds individualized treatment plans that address co-occurring conditions simultaneously. That means your trauma work, your nutritional rehabilitation, your family dynamics, and your somatic processing are all part of one coordinated plan — not separate tracks running in parallel with no communication between them.

Every clinician on your team meets weekly to review your progress and adjust the plan. This is not a program where you see a therapist who doesn't know what your psychiatrist prescribed or what came up in your group session yesterday.

Evidence-Based and Holistic — Not One or the Other

We use CBT, DBT, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and solution-focused therapy because they work and the research supports them. But we also know that clinical modalities alone don't reach everything. Some of what women carry lives in the body, not in cognition.

That's why somatic therapy, sound healing, art therapy, equine-assisted activities, breathwork, and nutritional counseling are built into the treatment plan — not offered as optional extras. Your nervous system needs more than talk therapy. We provide it.

Women-Only, by Design

This is not a co-ed program with a women's wing. Every group, every session, every meal, every interaction happens in a women-only space. The clinical reasoning is straightforward: women process trauma differently in mixed-gender settings. They minimize. They perform. They take care of everyone else in the room before addressing their own pain.

In a women-only environment, that pattern breaks. Women speak more honestly. They connect faster. They stop performing and start processing.

Flexible Scheduling That Respects Your Life

We offer PHP (day and evening options), IOP, and outpatient therapy because recovery doesn't happen on a single schedule. If you're a mother, a professional, a student, or someone managing caregiving responsibilities, we build your treatment around your reality — not the other way around.

Available Therapeutic Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT targets the thought patterns that drive anxiety, depression, and self-destructive behavior. Your therapist works with you to identify distorted thinking and replace it with accurate, functional beliefs. Techniques include exposure work, behavioral activation, and structured exercises to interrupt rumination and catastrophic thinking.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is the standard of care for emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and chronic suicidality. Our program includes individual DBT sessions and skills groups covering mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. You learn concrete tools you can use in real time.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing allows you to process traumatic memories without having to narrate them in detail. Bilateral stimulation helps your brain reprocess stuck memories so they lose their emotional charge. Effective for PTSD, complex trauma, and trauma-driven eating disorders.

Somatic Therapy

Trauma lives in the body. Somatic therapy helps you identify and release the physical tension, numbness, and hyperarousal that talk therapy alone can't reach. Through guided body awareness, breathwork, and gentle movement, you learn to regulate your nervous system from the inside out.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS helps you understand the different parts of yourself — the protectors, the managers, the exiles — and develop a compassionate relationship with all of them. It's particularly effective for women who feel internal conflict between what they want and what they think they should want.

Art Therapy

Creative expression provides access to emotions that words can't always reach. A trained art therapist guides you through painting, drawing, sculpture, and collage to explore and process what's happening beneath the surface.

Equine-Assisted Activities

Working with horses builds trust, emotional awareness, and nonverbal communication skills. Horses respond to your emotional state in real time, providing immediate feedback that accelerates self-awareness and relational healing.

Sound Healing

Sound vibrations from singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks promote deep relaxation and nervous system regulation. Used as a complement to clinical work, sound healing helps reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and support emotional processing.

Nutrition and Gut Health

Your gut and your brain are directly connected. Our nutritional counseling addresses the biological foundations of mood, anxiety, and disordered eating. We work with you on sustainable nutrition — not diet culture repackaged as wellness.

Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to access subconscious patterns that drive unwanted behaviors. It's effective for anxiety, trauma responses, and habit change when used alongside other evidence-based modalities.

Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness training teaches you to observe your thoughts and sensations without reacting to them. Regular practice reduces anxiety, improves emotional regulation, and builds the capacity to stay present — even when your nervous system wants to shut down or run.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is IKANN different from other women's treatment programs in South Florida?

IKANN integrates evidence-based clinical therapy with holistic and somatic modalities in every treatment plan. We don't separate clinical work from body-based work — they're coordinated by the same team. Our programs are exclusively for women, with full-time onsite staff and weekly treatment plan reviews.

Do I have to participate in holistic therapies like sound healing or art therapy?

Your treatment plan is individualized. If a particular modality doesn't resonate with you, your clinician will adjust the plan. Nothing is forced. The goal is to find the combination that works for your specific needs.

Can I continue working or going to school while in treatment?

Yes. We offer PHP with day and evening options, IOP, and outpatient therapy specifically so you can maintain your responsibilities while getting the level of care you need.

What happens after I complete the program?

IKANN provides long-term aftercare and continued support for graduates. This includes ongoing check-ins, alumni resources, and the option to step down to a lower level of care rather than ending treatment abruptly.
